CORE WAIVER, RELEASE OF LIABILITY & ASSUMPTION OF RISK
For in-person CORE retreats, courses, workshops, travel, meals, premises, and activities
1. Voluntary Participation
I voluntarily choose to participate in the CORE offering identified above. I understand I may decline to participate in an optional activity and may leave an activity when reasonably safe to do so, subject to any event rules, transportation arrangements, and emergency procedures.
2. Risks
I understand that in-person courses, retreats, workshops, meals, travel, premises, and related activities may involve risks that cannot be completely eliminated. Depending on the event, risks may include slips, trips, falls, stairs, uneven surfaces, weather, heat or cold, lifting or movement, exercise or recreational activity, transportation, vehicle accidents, food allergies or food-borne illness, contagious illness, contact with other participants, property loss or damage, acts or omissions of other persons, emergency response delays, and other known or unknown risks of bodily injury, illness, disability, death, or property damage.
If an event includes a particular higher-risk activity, the Local Host or activity provider may require an additional activity-specific waiver. I am responsible for disclosing relevant limitations or allergies when appropriate and for deciding whether I can safely participate.
3. Assumption of Risk
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, I KNOWINGLY AND VOLUNTARILY ACCEPT AND ASSUME THE INHERENT AND OTHER ORDINARY RISKS OF PARTICIPATION IN THE EVENT AND ACTIVITIES DESCRIBED ABOVE, INCLUDING RISKS THAT MAY ARISE FROM THE CONDITION OF PREMISES, WEATHER, TRAVEL, MEALS, EQUIPMENT, OTHER PARTICIPANTS, OR THE ORDINARY NEGLIGENCE OF A RELEASED PARTY, EXCEPT TO THE EXTENT APPLICABLE LAW DOES NOT PERMIT SUCH RISK TO BE ASSUMED OR RELEASED.
4. Express Release and Waiver of Ordinary Negligence
IN CONSIDERATION FOR BEING PERMITTED TO PARTICIPATE, AND TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, I RELEASE, WAIVE, AND DISCHARGE THE RELEASED PARTIES FROM CLAIMS FOR BODILY INJURY, ILLNESS, DEATH, PROPERTY DAMAGE, OR OTHER LOSS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO MY PARTICIPATION IN THE EVENT, INCLUDING CLAIMS CAUSED IN WHOLE OR IN PART BY THE ORDINARY NEGLIGENCE OF A RELEASED PARTY.
IMPORTANT: THIS DOCUMENT INCLUDES A RELEASE OF CLAIMS FOR ORDINARY NEGLIGENCE. READ IT CAREFULLY BEFORE SIGNING.

“Released Parties” means CORE; the Local Host identified above; authorized CORE facilitators; the owner or operator of the venue; and each of their respective directors, officers, employees, volunteers, authorized agents, affiliates, successors, and service providers, but only to the extent the person or entity is legally entitled to the benefit of this Waiver.
THIS WAIVER DOES NOT RELEASE LIABILITY THAT APPLICABLE LAW PROHIBITS A PERSON FROM WAIVING, INCLUDING LIABILITY FOR GROSS NEGLIGENCE, RECKLESS OR WILLFUL MISCONDUCT, ACTUAL FRAUD, OR OTHER NONWAIVABLE CONDUCT TO THE EXTENT APPLICABLE LAW SO PROVIDES.
5. Covenant Not to Sue
To the fullest extent permitted by law and consistent with the release above, I agree not to bring or maintain a claim against a Released Party for a claim that I have validly released in this Waiver. This covenant does not prevent me from asserting a claim that applicable law does not permit me to waive or release.
6. Medical and Emergency Matters
If I become ill or injured and am unable to make or communicate a decision, I authorize reasonable emergency assistance to be requested for me. I understand that CORE and a Local Host do not undertake to provide medical care and may contact emergency services. I am responsible for medical, ambulance, transportation, or other charges incurred for my care except to the extent applicable law requires otherwise.
7. Personal Property
I am responsible for my personal property. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Released Parties are not responsible for loss, theft, or damage to personal property except to the extent caused by conduct for which liability cannot lawfully be excluded.
8. Participant Responsibility; Indemnity for Participant-Caused Claims
I agree to follow reasonable safety instructions and event rules and not to intentionally or recklessly endanger another person. To the fullest extent permitted by law, I agree to indemnify and hold the Released Parties harmless from third-party claims arising from my own unlawful, intentional, reckless, or materially rule-violating conduct, but not from a Released Party’s conduct for which applicable law does not permit indemnification.
9. Independent Local Host
Unless CORE expressly agrees otherwise in a separate signed agreement, a Local Host, venue, transportation provider, food provider, and facilitator may be independent from CORE. Authorization to use CORE Materials does not by itself make an independent host, venue, provider, or facilitator an employee or agent of CORE.
10. South Carolina Law; Personal-Injury Arbitration
To the fullest extent permitted by law, this Waiver is governed by South Carolina law without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. I understand that South Carolina’s Uniform Arbitration Act excludes claims arising out of personal injury from that state arbitration chapter. Nothing in this Waiver is intended to require arbitration of a personal-injury claim where applicable law makes that requirement unenforceable. Any separate arbitration agreement is governed according to its own terms and applicable federal or state law.

11. Severability and Scope
This Waiver is intended to be enforced only to the fullest extent permitted by law. If any provision or application is held invalid or unenforceable, it will be limited or severed to the minimum extent necessary, and the remainder will remain in effect. This Waiver supplements, and does not replace, the CORE Participant Release, Acknowledgment & Consent and any activity-specific waiver.
12. Acknowledgment
I HAVE READ THIS WAIVER, RELEASE OF LIABILITY & ASSUMPTION OF RISK IN FULL. I UNDERSTAND THAT I AM GIVING UP LEGAL RIGHTS, INCLUDING CERTAIN RIGHTS TO SUE FOR INJURIES OR LOSSES CAUSED BY ORDINARY NEGLIGENCE. I HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO ASK QUESTIONS AND TO SEEK LEGAL ADVICE IF I CHOOSE. I SIGN VOLUNTARILY.
For participants who do not have legal capacity to sign for themselves, CORE or the Local Host should use a separately reviewed guardian/minor waiver appropriate to the jurisdiction rather than relying solely on this adult form.
